Acquisitions.

Acquisitions.

Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! – Proverbs 4:5   Men are built to gain ground. Dominance is within our created design. Men are seekers of control, and you need to know my brother, that God isn’t against that. He just wants your target to be redefined in terms of what you’re hoping to gain. We spend our entire lives as men warring on the frontier of battling for better careers, better homes, better gear, better networks, better educations, and better financial stability. Nothing wrong with that, necessarily, unless you’re letting the most precious acquisitions slip away, as you chase the material glitter that can prove to be inconsequential in helping you finish the race of life as a winner in the eyes of God. The word of God tells you to make sure you acquire wisdom. A man can spend his entire life acquiring the inconsequential, only to find he’s a fool in the end, because he doesn’t possess the wisdom of...
The Secret To Increasing Wild Game Dinner Attendance

The Secret To Increasing Wild Game Dinner Attendance

Seeing tangible increases in your wild game dinner attendance is not always an easy task. Sometimes you work like crazy to promote your wild game dinner, and nothing happens. Sometimes people show up in droves, and the only explanation you have is that God did it! One of the neatest jobs I ever had came when I was finishing my seminary degree at Southwestern Seminary. There was a financial firm who specialized in helping parents find financial aid for their college-bound student. This firm would host a Saturday or Sunday seminar that lasted about two hours, and I was one of their professional speakers. They literally paid me to present their material to the parents. Their sales methods taught me a lot about presentation skills, but it also taught me a ton about hosting events. I used this tactic when I hosted men’s events and I saw a definite increase in wild game dinner attendance when I put it to use. The firm had noticed there was a sizeable and depressing difference in how many people signed up for the event when compared to how many people were actually showing up for the event. Nothing new there, for we’ve all seen that happen. People RSVP, but even that doesn’t guarantee attendance. So, I get a call one day from the CEO, and he asks me to lead a pilot project of sorts. He would fax me a copy of the RSVP list, usually about 25 families, which was complete with phone numbers. He had me personally call the list on Friday night, the evening before the event, which was...
Outdoor Ministry. Filming Hunts. And Your Church.

Outdoor Ministry. Filming Hunts. And Your Church.

Is Filming Your Hunts Actually Worth It For Your Church And Ministry?  Outdoor ministry and filming seem like they’d go hand in hand at first glance.  However, after 15 years of speaking and being a consultant to churches and denominations wanting to launch outdoor ministry efforts, I can tell you that video is more than likely NOT your answer in terms of reaching hunters within your immediate region. It may work, but you need to think long and hard before spending outdoor ministry money to purchase a professional camera, editing software, tree stand camera arms, tripods, professional audio capabilities, lights and a set for post-production filming, access to royalty-free music and the money to pay to get it, and many other elements like this that you must have to pull this thing off.  Continue...
The Power Of Permission

The Power Of Permission

Enter your text here...For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. – 2 Timothy 1:6   I have been in ministry now for well over 20 years, and there’s an odd truth which I have experienced over and over again. I cannot explain it, I just know it’s true for I’ve seen it play out too many times to deny it. That truth is: sometimes people need permission to be who God created them to be. No, you are not God. Neither am I, and that’s not at all the point here. As Jesus followers, we are, however, people whom God uses to do His speaking. I don’t think for a minute the “gift” Paul is speaking of here actually came into Timothy’s life because Paul physically touched him, thus giving Timothy the gift of preaching. Paul was a mere mortal, and that fact alone disqualifies him from being the gift-giver. Only the Spirit can inject gifts into a person. Paul makes too many references in 1 Timothy that indicate there were prophecies, or some sort of leading visions, seen by both him and other men surrounding Timothy’s life, whereby the gift of preaching was evident, and thus they “bestowed” that gift upon him. That is, they were in effect saying, “Hey man, we all see in you that you are called to preach, and we want to lay hands on you, pray over you, and confirm it.” You can’t go around just saying all sorts of things about someone’s future because you...
